L-Style Champagne Ring System Guide

L-Style's system is built around the Champagne Ring, a cap that fits into the flight end of a nylon shaft, covers the shaft prongs and holds the flight in place. L-Shafts thread into any standard 2BA barrel, most ship with Champagne Rings, and many L-Style flights now have the ring molded in. Our Laserdarts WidowMaker sets ship with L-Style Shape WidowMaker flights.

What does an L-Style Champagne Ring do?

A Champagne Ring caps the flight cavity of a nylon shaft so the flight stays seated and the shaft is protected. It softens hard deflections and prevents robin-hooding, when one dart splits the shaft of another already in the board.

Both fit nylon shafts only, not metal or other shaft types.

Do L-Style flights and shafts work with other brands?

Mostly, yes. L-Shafts use a standard 2BA thread, and the Straight and Slim Locked L-Shafts accept any standard flight, locked in with Champagne Rings or Shell Lock Rings. Many L-Style flights, like the Dimpled flights, also mount on a shaft that takes a standard flight.

The limit is the ring, which fits nylon shafts only. On other slotted shafts, a metal slot lock ring keeps the flight from working loose. L-Style flights do not fit Cosmo Fit Shafts, which take Fit Flights only.

Champagne flight or built-in ring flight: which should I buy?

If you want fewer small parts, buy a flight with the ring molded in. If your shafts already have rings, a regular Champagne flight is all you need.

Both come in Standard, Shape and Slim cuts, so you can keep the profile you already throw.

Which L-Style flight shape should I choose?

Choose Standard or Shape for a steady flight, and Slim if you want less drag for a flatter throw. Many L-Style designs come in more than one cut, so you can keep your shape and change only the look.

  • Standard: a full flight surface that holds a steady path, like the American Flag v2 Standard.
  • Shape: a rounded, compact profile, like the L-Style Flight Shape.
  • Slim: cut narrower than Standard for lower drag, like the American Flag v2 Slim.
  • Rocket and Teardrop: specialty cuts in some signature designs. Rocket is longer and narrower than a standard flight.

Check the cut on each listing, since names like Kami, EZ and Champagne describe the series, not the shape.

Which players have L-Style signature flights?

L-Style makes signature flights for many players, including Fallon Sherrock, Deta Hedman, Jelle Klaasen, Ryan Searle and Derek Hinkle. Each design comes in a set cut and ring style, so check both before you order.

Derek Hinkle also has a Laserdarts barrel, the Laserdart Tomahawk, a 22g, 90% tungsten dart with front and rear shark cuts, so flight and barrel can match.

Which L-Shaft should I choose?

Pick locked or spinning first, then material, then length. Straight L-Shafts run super short, short, in-between and medium, and the Slim Locked covers in-between medium, in-between long and long.

If a shaft keeps backing out of the barrel, the L-Shaft Tightener GOMU holds the joint tight. Each piece is single use.

Which L-Style Lippoint soft tips fit my darts?

Standard Lippoints use the 2BA thread found on most modern soft tip darts. Then choose a length, measured without the thread:

  • Short: about 0.9 in (22mm), like the Premium Lippoint Short.
  • Regular: 1 in (25mm), like the Lippoint Regular.
  • Long: about 1.2 in (30mm) in the Premium line.
  • No. 5: a smaller thread for darts that call for it. It will not fit 2BA barrels.

To throw the same barrel on a bristle board, Hard Lippoint Conversion Points switch it to steel tip.

What L-Style cases hold spare flights and tips?

L-Style makes small carriers that clip to your main case, belt or keys, so spares ride with you instead of loose in a pocket.
