Air Darts Guide

At Horizon Darts, air darts means the Air Dart Gun: a launcher with a 30 in (76 cm) anodized aluminum barrel and a mouthpiece. It fires darts with ¼ in tips and is listed as approved for use on electronic dartboards. Online, the term covers several kinds of toy and target darts. This collection is only the Air Dart Gun, its replacement darts and its parts.

What comes with the Air Dart Gun?

The Air Dart Gun ships complete, with everything needed to start playing:

  • The gun, with a 30 in anodized aluminum barrel
  • 1 hand grip
  • A standard mouthpiece
  • A muzzle guard
  • 3 darts
  • A quiver for carrying spare darts

It comes in black or red. The darts take ¼ in tips and are also sold one at a time in yellow, teal, white or red.

What target do you use with air darts?

Use an electronic dartboard. The Air Dart Gun is listed as approved for use on electronic units, and its darts use ¼ in tips. That means you can add a different kind of game to a soft tip board you already own. Browse dartboards if you need one. If you are unsure whether your board is a match, ask our team before you buy.

Are Air Darts the same as soft tip darts?

No. Air Darts are made for the Air Dart Gun and sold one at a time, while soft tip darts usually come in sets of three, each with a barrel, shaft and flight, and are thrown by hand.

The two share a target: both are used on electronic dartboards. They do not always share tips, though. Air Darts take ¼ in tips, while most modern soft tip darts use the smaller 2BA thread, so check before buying spares. For league nights and regular board games, browse our soft tip darts. The Air Dart Gun is a different game for the same board.

What tips do Air Darts use?

Air Darts use standard ¼ in tips. That is the wider thread found on many bar and coin-op darts, not the 2BA thread on most modern soft tip darts.

For spares, our ¼ in Soft Tip Points (50 count) are black tips made for barrels with ¼ in threading. If your group plays often, the 500-count box of the same point saves reordering. Neither fits 2BA barrels, so do not mix them up with the tips for your regular soft tip set.

Which Air Dart Gun parts can I replace?

Every wear part is sold separately, so a lost dart or a worn mouthpiece does not mean buying a new gun.

  • Air Dart: single replacement darts with ¼ in tips
  • Mouthpiece: durable nylon, swaps in seconds
  • Muzzle Guard: covers the end of the aluminum barrel and helps keep it from bending if dropped
  • Quiver: slides over the barrel and holds up to 8 darts
  • Handle (hard nylon) or Grip (3 in foam): slide over the barrel for a steadier hold

Are air darts safe for kids?

Kids should play only with an adult in charge. The Air Dart Gun launches tipped darts, so treat it with the same care as any other dart game.

  • Never aim at people or pets, even as a joke.
  • Keep everyone behind the shooter while darts are in play.
  • Collect darts only after every player has finished shooting.
  • Store the gun and darts out of reach when the game is over.
