Dart Award Pins Guide
Dart award pins are small wearable badges that mark a specific feat at the board, like a Ton 80: a maximum 180, scored with three darts in the triple 20. Leagues hand them out on the night, and players wear them on shirts, vests and dart cases. We carry pins for big scoring turns, Hat Tricks, Cricket marks and fast finishes.
What do Low Ton, High Ton, Ton 80 and Hat Trick mean?
They name a big three-dart turn. In darts slang a ton is 100 points.
| Pin | What it takes in one turn |
|---|---|
| Low Ton | 100–150 points |
| High Ton | 151 points and up |
| Ton 80 | 180 points from three triple 20s, the highest possible |
| Hat Trick | Three darts in the bullseye |
A 180 has its own Ton 80 pin. League definitions vary, so check your league's rules before ordering.
What is a White Horse in darts?
A White Horse is three triples on three different Cricket numbers in a single turn, such as triple 20, triple 19 and triple 18. That turn is worth nine marks, and it has its own White Horse pin. Leagues differ on the fine print, such as whether an opponent may already have marked those numbers, so confirm the rule with yours. A related feat is 3 In A Bed: all three darts in the same numbered segment in one turn.
How do Cricket mark pins work?
In Cricket a single is one mark, a double is two and a triple is three, so the most you can score in one turn is nine marks. Mark pins recognize turns of five marks or more.
- 5 Mark: for example, a triple and a double
- 6 Mark: for example, two triples
- 7 and 8 Mark: two triples plus a single or a double
- 9 Mark: three triples, the perfect turn, marked by the Cricket 9 Mark pin
The Cricket Hat pin covers the Cricket version of a hat trick, as your league defines it.
What is the difference between a round out and a dart out?
A round out counts turns, and a dart out counts darts. A 4th Round Out means finishing a leg by your fourth turn, which is 12 darts or fewer. The soft tip dart out pins count the exact number of darts used to finish, from the 6 Dart Out up to 7, 8 and 9. Which game they apply to, and whether it is played double in or double out, depends on your league.
What is a nine-dart finish?
A nine-dart finish is a leg of 501 completed in nine darts, the fewest possible, because three darts can score no more than 180. A classic route is two 180s followed by a 141 checkout: triple 20, triple 19, double 12.
It is the darts version of a perfect game, and rare at any level. Shorter league games have their own fast-finish awards: our soft tip dart out pins, from the 6 Dart Out to the 9 Dart Out, mark a leg closed in that many darts in whatever game your league plays. Each maximum turn along the way earns a Ton 80 pin.
Who buys dart award pins?
Leagues, bar operators and players all buy them. League secretaries keep pins on hand to present on league night, and players buy their own to remember a personal best. Each achievement is its own listing, so a league can order only the feats it recognizes. Pins fasten to a shirt, vest, hat or dart case. If you are not sure which achievements your league tracks, ask your league secretary before you order.
