Voks Darts Buying Guide
Voks is an American dart maker, founded in 1980 in Mentor, Ohio and now based in Melbourne, Florida, that machines its own barrels. Our Voks range covers fixed and fulcrum point steel tip darts, soft tip darts, the Soft-Steel convertible system and its parts, plus a few board setup tools. For darts designed and machined in Kansas City, see our own Laserdarts.
What is the difference between Voks fixed point and fulcrum point darts?
A fixed point is set solid in the barrel, while a fulcrum point is Voks' moveable steel point. The Bomber comes both ways, so you can compare directly:
- Bomber Fixed Point: 26g, front-heavy, 1.85 in (47mm) long.
- Bomber Fulcrum Point: 23g, with the same contoured front grip and square-cut back.
Other options include the Oracle Fixed Point (23g or 25g) and the Jagger II Fulcrum (23g). If you decide you prefer a solid point, the Fixed Point Conversion Kit uses rubber stoppers to lock a movable point in place.
How does the Voks Soft-Steel system work?
Soft-Steel is Voks' convertible point system: one barrel switches between soft tip and steel tip play by changing the point. The Soft-Steel Raptor #05 is an 18g, front-weighted, knurled barrel built on it.
The parts are specific to the system and will not fit other darts:
- Soft-Steel replacement points, 50 count
- Replacement springs for the moving action
- Aluminum weight inserts that add 1 gram per barrel
For a Laserdarts convertible, the KC Landshark Convertible #3 is a front-weighted 90% tungsten barrel that switches between soft and steel tip.
Which Voks soft tip dart should I choose?
Choose by grip and length. All four are tungsten barrels.
| Dart | Weight | Grip and shape |
|---|---|---|
| Magneto | 20g | Smooth oppositional cuts, low profile |
| Magneto II | 20g | Adds a ringed back for a firmer rear grip |
| Jagger II Spring Loaded | 18g | Spring-loaded tentacles set in slightly to reduce flight damage |
| Harpoon Jr | 16g | Front-heavy shorty, 1.38 in (35mm) long |
The Magnetos and Harpoon Jr use a standard 2BA thread.
Does Voks make tools for setting up a dartboard?
Yes, two that take the guesswork out. The Voks Toe Line Checker measures straight from the bullseye to your throw line, in steel tip or soft tip versions. The Voks Dartboard Door Hanger hangs a board on a standard door with several height positions, which suits rentals and dorms.
For a permanent setup, mark the line with a Laserdart throw line and mount a bristle board with the Deluxe Dartboard Bracket. The center of the bull sits at 5 ft 8 in (173 cm) for both steel tip and soft tip.
What is the Voks Alaska Mosquito dart?
The Alaska Mosquito is a miniature tungsten practice dart of just 5 to 6 grams, made in the USA and sold with a storage case. It is sized for steel tip boards and built for drilling grip and release with a lighter tool between rounds with your match darts, not for full-weight play. For more ways to train, see our practice aids.
Voks or Laserdarts: which American-made darts should I choose?
Choose Voks for its distinctive grip patterns and point systems, and Laserdarts if you want a stated tungsten content, a lifetime guarantee and the chance to try before you buy. Both are American dart makers.
- Voks, based in Melbourne, Florida, hand-machines every barrel and offers fulcrum moveable points, the Soft-Steel convertible system and spring-loaded tentacle grips. Our Voks listings say tungsten but do not give a percentage.
- Laserdarts are designed and machined by Horizon Darts in Kansas City, Kansas, in 90% tungsten unless a product page says otherwise, and carry a lifetime barrel guarantee. If you like a moveable point, try the Black Widow Moveable Ringed.
US players can borrow up to two sets of Laserdarts through the Dart Lending Library.
