Black Widow Darts

Black Widow darts are the flagship darts from Laserdarts, the dart line Horizon Darts designs and machines in Kansas City, Kansas. Every Widow shares the same slim, slightly front-weighted 90% tungsten barrel. The Black, Gold and Silver Widows differ in finish, grip and point style, so you can choose the feel without changing the balance.

What keeps players coming back is repeatability. Unidirectional grooves grip on the forward stroke and let go cleanly at release, every point is set by hand, and sets are matched within 0.05 gram. Black and Gold Widows add a three-layer vapor coating for a tactile hold, while the uncoated Silver Widow gives a smoother release.

Choose fixed or moveable points in steel tip, or 2BA soft tip versions for electronic boards, all backed by the Laserdarts lifetime barrel guarantee. Not sure which weight or grip suits you? US players can borrow a Widow through our Dart Lending Library before buying.

Who makes Black Widow darts?

Black Widow darts are made by Laserdarts, the dart brand owned and manufactured by Horizon Darts, Inc. at 2415 S 50th Street in Kansas City, Kansas. Horizon Darts is a two-person, family-owned company, and the same people who make the darts pack and ship your order.

That means buying here is buying direct from the maker. See the full Laserdarts range or read our story.

How are Black, Gold and Silver Widows different?

All three share the same barrel shape and balance; the difference is the finish and how it feels at release.

ModelFinishFeel
Black WidowBlack three-layer vapor coatingTactile, slightly grippy surface
Gold WidowGold three-layer vapor coatingSame grip as the Black Widow in gold
Silver WidowUncoated tungstenSmoother, lower-friction release

Choose Black or Gold if your fingers slip, and Silver if you prefer a clean, friction-free let-go.

What makes the Black Widow barrel different from other tungsten darts?

The Widow combines three things that make every throw feel the same: a slim, slightly front-weighted 90% tungsten barrel, back-cut grooves, and tight manufacturing tolerances.

  • Back-cut (unidirectional) grooves: a steep front wall grips as you accelerate, and a gentle rear slope lets the dart leave cleanly. Laserdarts credits this groove design to US Patent 4,212,464.
  • Slim profile: the ringed fixed-point steel barrel measures 6.73 mm across at 20g and 23g, which leaves room for tight groupings.
  • Hand pointing and matching: every point is set by hand, and sets are matched within 0.05 gram.

Ringed, knurled or Wicked Knurl: which Black Widow grip should I choose?

Pick the grip by how much bite you want at release; the barrel balance stays the same.

What weight Black Widow darts should I buy?

If you are unsure, start in the middle of the range, such as 23g for steel tip or 18g for soft tip, and adjust from there. Moveable point steel models run 1 gram lighter than their fixed point versions.

Black Widow modelWeights
Fixed point steel tip, ringed or knurled20, 23, 26, 28g
Moveable point steel tip, ringed or knurled19, 22, 25, 27g
Wicked fixed point steel tip23, 26g
Soft tip #1 Ringed16, 18, 20g
Soft tip #2 Knurled16, 18, 20, 22g
Soft tip #3 Wicked Knurl18, 20, 22g

The National Dart Association caps a complete soft tip dart at 20 grams, so check your league before choosing a 22g soft tip set.

Should I get a fixed point or moveable point Black Widow?

Choose fixed point for the classic feel and fewer moving parts; choose moveable point if bounce-outs off the wires cost you scores. On a moveable point Widow, the point slides back on impact so the barrel's momentum drives it past a wire.

Replacement MP points come in several lengths, from Super Short to Long.

Does the Black Widow coating wear off?

With enough play, yes. The black and gold finishes are vapor-deposited in high heat rather than painted, so they are much harder than paint, but how fast they wear depends on the acidity of your skin and how often you throw. Coating and knurling wear are not covered by the lifetime barrel guarantee.

If you would rather have nothing to wear away, the uncoated Silver Widow has the same barrel with a bare tungsten finish. Wipe your darts with a dry cloth, like the Laserdarts Microfiber Towel, after each session.

What are Spider Leg shafts, and how do I keep them tight?

Spider Leg shafts are the wire shafts fitted to fixed point Widows: high-tensile wires anchored in an aluminum base and held together under heat-shrunk rubber. They hold the flight firmly without springs or rings.

  • Tighten by the metal base only, never by the wires.
  • If a shaft loosens, briefly warm the shrink wrap and let it cool before throwing again, as described on our warranty page.
  • Replacements: Spider Leg Shafts.

For a one-piece alternative, the Condor Zero Stress Widow joins flight and shaft into a single unit.

Are there soft tip Black Widow darts?

Yes. Soft tip Black Widows use the same slim, front-weighted 90% tungsten design with a 2BA tip thread for electronic dartboards.

Gold and Silver Widows come in soft tip too. Browse all soft tip darts.

What is the Black Widow Wicked 40th Anniversary Limited Edition?

It is a limited-edition soft tip Black Widow made to mark four decades of Laserdarts soft tip darts. The 40th Anniversary Wicked pairs the slightly front-heavy Wicked Knurl barrel with a black-on-silver finish and a three-layer vapor coating.

  • 90% tungsten soft tip barrel
  • 18g: 41.1 mm long, 7.1 mm across
  • Ships in a specialty light-up presentation box

It suits collectors and players who want a Widow with real presentation value. Quantities are limited.

What is the WidowMaker, and how does it relate to the Black Widow?

The WidowMaker is a convertible Laserdarts dart from the Widow family: one 90% tungsten barrel that switches between soft tip and steel tip play by changing points. It has a slim, multi-grip design and comes in black or silver.

Choose a WidowMaker if you play both formats; choose a Black Widow if you play one and want the classic barrel.

What does the lifetime guarantee cover on Black Widow darts?

If a Black Widow barrel breaks, cracks or chips through normal use, we replace it free of charge. The guarantee covers the barrel itself, not wear to the coating or knurling, and not shafts, flights or points. Modified barrels are not covered.

To make a claim, call 1-800-542-3278 for a return authorization number and send all three barrels back insured. Warranty claims go directly to Horizon Darts, makers of Laserdarts. Full details are on the warranty page.

Can I try Black Widow darts before I buy?

Yes. Through the Dart Lending Library, US players can check out up to two sets for 10 business days. The library stocks uncoated Silver Widows, which throw the same as the coated models.

If you decide you want a Black or Gold Widow, return the silver loaners and tell us which coated model you want. We send the new set and charge only the difference. It is the simplest way to settle weight and grip with a real Widow in your hand.

Where can I buy genuine Black Widow darts?

Buy from Horizon Darts, the maker of Laserdarts, or from a retailer that stocks genuine Laserdarts. Every Widow sold here ships from our own Kansas City building with the lifetime barrel guarantee.

Some shafts and flights sold elsewhere are labeled for Black Widow darts but are compatible parts from other brands, not Laserdarts products. If you are unsure whether a set or part is genuine, contact us with a photo or listing link. Shops and leagues can carry Laserdarts through our dealer program.
