Horizon Darts Shopping Guide
Horizon Darts carries everything you need to play darts in one store: darts, dartboards, flights, shafts, points, cases and game room gear. We are a family-owned dart shop and manufacturer in Kansas City, Kansas, founded in 1985. We make our own Laserdarts and Horizon Darts lines and stock brands like Winmau, Harrows and GranBoard. New players should start with darts and a board, then add spares.
Where should a beginner start when buying darts?
Start by choosing steel tip or soft tip, because the darts and the board have to match. Steel tip darts go with a bristle board. Soft tip darts go with an electronic board that keeps score for you.
After that, shop in this order: darts, a dartboard, something to protect the wall, a throw line, and a few spare flights. If your league or local bar already plays one format, buy for that one.
Steel tip vs soft tip darts: what is the difference?
Steel tip darts have a sharp metal point and are thrown at a bristle board. Soft tip darts have a plastic tip and are thrown at an electronic board that scores automatically. The rest of the setup changes too:
| Spec | Steel tip | Soft tip |
|---|---|---|
| Board | Bristle (sisal) | Electronic |
| Throw distance | 7 ft 9¼ in (237 cm) | 8 ft (244 cm) under NDA rules |
| Bullseye height | 5 ft 8 in (173 cm) | 5 ft 8 in (173 cm) |
| Typical dart weight | 22–26g | 16–20g, 20g max for NDA play |
The steel tip and soft tip collections each have a full guide.
What do I need for a complete home dart setup?
A complete setup comes down to six things: darts, a board, wall protection, a throw line, spare parts and a case.
- Darts: one set per player, steel tip or soft tip.
- Board: the Winmau Blade 6 for steel tip, or the Gran Board Dash for soft tip, which includes 2 sets of darts.
- Wall protection: a Back Board, a surround, or a Steel Tip Wood Cabinet.
- Throw line: the Vinyl Dart Mat is printed with both soft tip and steel tip lines.
- Spares: flights, shafts and points.
- Case: the Laserdart Drop Sleeve Case holds one assembled set.
Should my first darts be brass or tungsten?
Brass is fine while you learn, and tungsten is the better buy once you play every week. Brass costs less but makes a wider barrel at the same weight. Tungsten is denser, so the barrel is slimmer and your darts group closer together.
- Entry brass: the Class Brass #1 (19g steel tip) or the Devil Brass #3 (18g soft tip).
- Tungsten: every Laserdarts barrel is 90% tungsten unless its product page says otherwise, and each one carries a lifetime barrel guarantee.
How does the Dart Lending Library work?
The Dart Lending Library lets US customers borrow up to two sets of Laserdarts or select Horizon Darts models for 10 business days before deciding. Throw them at home or at league, keep the set that suits you and send back the rest. It is the easiest way to settle weight and grip questions with real darts in your hand instead of guessing from photos. Details and the models you can borrow are on the Dart Lending Library page.
Where do I find replacement flights, shafts and points?
Each kind of part has its own collection, which is faster than scrolling All Products.
- Dart flights, including locking systems from L-Style and Cosmo
- Dart shafts
- Dart points: soft tips, steel points and conversion points
- Accessories: O-rings, extractors, grip aids and tools
- Dartboard accessories: brackets, throw lines and out charts
Most shafts and steel points use 2BA thread. Soft tips come in 2BA and the older, wider ¼ in thread, so check which one your darts take.
How fast does Horizon Darts ship, and is shipping free?
Orders ship within 48 business hours, and most ship within 24. Standard US shipping is free on qualifying retail orders over $75, with dartboards and other large items excluded. Carrier delivery dates are not guaranteed once a package leaves our Kansas City warehouse. Full terms are on shipping and returns, and you can check an order on track my order.
Can I talk to someone before I buy?
Yes. Call 1-800-542-3278 and our team answers the phone, or send a message through our contact page. Tell us how you hold the dart, what you throw now and what feels wrong, and we will suggest a few sets worth trying. Shops, bars and leagues that want to sell our products can apply on the dealer page.
